It has been my honor to be in the room for the birth of each of my four children. There was no way to prepare myself for the moment when my first child arrived into this world. It was a high and holy moment. It was impossible to hold back the tears. We highly anticipated this day. My wife and I read every book, we attended classes, and we prayed over the course of nine months to prepare ourselves for this arrival. Even with all these preparations, there was no way to fully get ourselves ready. In one moment, a part of my wife and I, our very own child, had been born. This was special! At the birth of each of my children, I experienced euphoria. It was an awe-filled time of worship, of our Creator God, who had formed each child.
As Christians, we must believe in the sanctity of human life. The Bible teaches that life begins at conception. Psalm 139 says, "You created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Every child inside their mother's womb is a creation of God, is a life that matters to God, and therefore should matter to us.
Life is ordained by God and it is a sin to take the life of anyone, including an unborn child. The sixth commandment delivered by God through Moses states, "Thou shall not kill". There is no difference in taking the life of a 2 year old toddler as there is a 2 week old baby in their mother's womb. Murder is murder no matter a person's age.
As kingdom people, we cannot vote for anything that is directly contrary to the agenda of the King. We cannot be on God's side if we are on the side of murder. It is impossible. The King is in favor of life. Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life (John 14:6)." He also said, "The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I came to bring life (John 10:10)." Jesus is the author of life. We must vote for life.
Some want to believe that abortion is an issue of woman's rights. No man or woman has the right to take the life of another human being. There are arguments that come based on a woman's circumstances at conception. I understand there are horrible scenarios for a child's conception. It does not change the child's right to life. God calls us to choose life. For those who have had an abortion, God is a redeeming God. Jesus will meet you there. In choosing life, adoption is a wonderful option. Imagine if the government funded adoption instead of abortion.
Every child deserves a chance to live. The outstanding college football player, from the University of Florida, Tim Tebow, could have had his life cut short through an abortion. Before he was born, his Mom was counseled by her doctor to take her baby's life because of some abnormalities that showed up through testing. Tim has made a difference in this world. I for one am thankful Tim was born. Imagine the countless Tim Tebow's who never had the chance to live. It is sobering to think about. Every child deserves a chance to live.
Each of us have Moms who chose life. I'm glad my Mom did! Every life matters. Every baby matters. Every child matters. We must vote for life.
